A new study at the University of Rochester Medical Center shows that fetal exposure to high levels of cortisol in the womb is linked with attention, cognitive and behavior problems later on. However, this situation can be reversed by a strong and secure connection between mother and child.
What it certainly emphasizes is that a lot happens in the womb that can impact a child's personality and behavior. "Fetal Programming" suggests that events in the womb can program the child for long-term health and developmental issues.Studies already show that what a mother eats can affect a child's risk for heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Now stress levels point to the possibility that emotional and behavior issues can begin in the womb.
