Prenatal Smoking and Lead linked to ADHD

We know that prenatal smoking is bad for your baby's health.

But do you know that it is particularly bad for your baby's brain and can actually give him or her a higher risk for ADHD?

New studies show that children exposed prenatally to tobacco and then to lead during childhood face an inordinately high risk for hyperactivity. This translates to 35% of existing ADHD cases or roughly about 800,000 children.

The study looked at data collected about 8 to 15 years olds gathered between 2001 and 2004 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from the National Center for Health Statistics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Considered a nationally representative sample of the United State population, the survey examined in this study suggests that more vigilance should be placed on educating pregnant moms about the dangers of toxicity in lifestyle and environment.
