Mind Reading Brain Technology

We are at the point now where human thought can be made visible by technology. Scientists at Bloorview Kids Rehab have produced a mind-reading device capable of deciphering the choices made by children afflicted with conditions (like severe cerebral palsy) that rob them of speech.

However, with this new device, even these children can communicate what they want--whether it is apple juice or orange juice for lunch, the red shirt or the blue shirt. This prototype device uses near-infrared light to decipher the brain's response when a child is offered a choice of two objects. Studies already show an 80% accuracy in the results generated.

Just think what this device would mean for children with autism, brain injuries, paralysis.

We are already in a brave new world of brain technology!
